Tip 1: Meal Prep
Generally, after a long day of classes, most college students do not want to go back to their apartment and have to cook a healthy meal. Cooking requires multiple tasks that most college students are not up for after a day filled with learning at school. The convenience of a fast food restaurant seems more appealing than going grocery shopping, especially to a hungry and exhausted college student. This is where meal prepping is helpful. If students dedicate a day, for example their Sunday afternoons, to cooking, they can create a week full of healthy meals that will be ready for them as soon as they get to their apartment. Not only is meal prepping great for your health, but it also creates a sense of organization and control over all of your lifestyle choices.

Living a healthy lifestyle is not all about eating whole foods and working out. A healthy lifestyle is also about creating positive mental health. An important aspect of mental health is making time for yourself. Everyone needs time to relax and reflect on their day, whether that be reading a book, going for a walk around your apartment complex, taking a nap, watching a movie or spending time with friends. While in college, students are prone to let life become stressful and chaotic, but by scheduling at least 30 minutes a day for “me time” the amount of stress in their life can decrease tremendously.
Tip 4: Always Get a Full Night of Sleep
Sleep is a major factor when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle and unfortunately, most college students do not sleep as much as they should. College students are known for staying up all night with friends and getting through their busy days by taking “cat naps”. Although naps are sometimes necessary, the average person should get between 8-10 hours of sleep each night. A lack of sleep can make a person feel fatigued, it can make someone get sick easier, it can cause irritability and much more. Being sure to get a full night of sleep is an important factor to staying healthy in college.
Tip 5: Find a Type of Exercise That Works for You
Every person is different and prefers to do different things. Some people love to run, while others despise it. The good news is that running and cardio activities are not the only ways to stay healthy. With that being said, always be willing to try new things and different kinds of exercise. No matter what type of exercise you are doing, the most important factor is being active and staying active for at least 30 minutes a day. It is easy for a college student to want to stay in their apartment and watch Netflix, but by finding a type of exercise you enjoy, the thought of being active will be more enjoyable.
