You get out of an experience what you put in, and the same goes for your time at Auburn. Student Government Association
If you’re interested in developing your leadership capabilities, student government can be a great place to start. SGA is the governing body of Auburn University. This organization helps promote the academic, social and healthy well-being of the student body. Organized into three branches: executive, legislative and judicial, there are a plethora of opportunities available to students. The executive branch sponsors 50+ initiatives that benefit the Auburn Students, while the legislative brand has a representative from every college working together to address student concerns. The judicial branch helps make implements the SGA Constitution and Code of Laws. This is a great way to meet new people, develop leadership skills, and get to know the ins and outs of Auburn’s campus.
Greek Life (Sorority and Fraternities)
Many Auburn students choose to partake in Greek life. These organizations are available for both males and females and allow you to join a group of people with similar personalities and interests. They have events with each other to get to know other sororities and fraternities better in order to expand your network. Each organization has its own philanthropic efforts that allow them to give back to the community, and many people choose their organization based on this. You can find the one that is right for you through the formal recruitment process, which allows each organization to get to know incoming or interested members. There are also opportunities for leadership within these organizations and through Panhellenic and Interfraternity Council.
Music and Arts
For the musically inclined there is a multitude of organizations to pique your artistic interest. AU Singers is a group of vocalists and instrumentalists that do show choir so you can channel your inner Glee desires. A fun club available is the Ukulele club which is suited for talents ranging from beginner to expert, all with the common goal of improving your talents and playing quality music. You can audition for various productions Auburn puts on through their theatre department. If music and acting are passions of yours, try out for one of these groups and meet people who have similar talents and interests along the way. This is a great way to get involved in Auburn’s performing arts department. Organizations like these are fun and help you develop a strong sense of camaraderie.
Service is a core value that drives a lot of organizations on Auburn’s campus. If you want to give back to the community during your time here at Auburn there are extensive opportunities for you to be able to do this. Some of the service based organizations are Big Event, Impact, Auburn Dance Marathon and Project Uplift. Big Event is an organization that runs one day of the year to enable Auburn students to go out into the city and give back to a city that has given so much to them via means of community service. Impact provides the opportunity to visit a multitude of different organizations in the area like Boys and Girls club. Another organization is the Auburn Dance Marathon, which raises money for Children’s Miracle Network. Project Uplift gives you the opportunity to be a mentor to a younger child and so much more. These organizations merely scratch the surface on the service opportunities that are available. No matter what you choose, they will not only allow you to give back to your community but build a community of your own.
If you love sports and played them growing up. Club sports offer a great opportunity for you to play your passions out on the field, court, pool, or arena. There is a variety of club sports available to Auburn students which allow them to play at the collegiate level. Some sports include tennis, soccer, equestrian, volleyball and many more. Club sports are a great way to meet new people, develop your skills, and grow new relationships with teammates.
